I've run the business you're running.

I trained in electronics before I trained in software — a technical baccalaureate in France, then Computing Science at the University of Glasgow, then two years in Kraków as an IT project manager. That is where the delivery discipline came from: scope, sequence, and the habit of shipping something that works rather than something that reads well in a plan.

Then twelve years as COO of a family manufacturing and distribution business. I ran B2B export across Europe — e-commerce, branding, logistics, distribution — and later the US and Canadian markets. Most of that work was unglamorous. Getting the quoting right. Getting inventory to tell the truth. Getting a process out of one person's head and into a form somebody else could run on a Tuesday.

I've had the 2am inventory problem. I've had the key-person problem, and the "nobody else knows how to quote this" problem. When you describe yours, I'm not translating it into a framework I read about. I've stood where you're standing.

They create the jobs. They carry the risk personally. They pay the taxes, they show up in their towns, and above everything they value being free — that's usually why they started in the first place.

And most of them are buried in the operation they built. Not because they're weak operators. Because they learned how to do the work brilliantly and nobody ever taught them how to build the machine that does the work.

Fixing that is not about replacing the founder. It's the opposite. A business that runs on systems hands the owner back the one thing the operation was eating: attention. And attention is what you need to build the thing beyond the business — the one that multiplies good in your family and in your community. Freedom from the grind, so there's freedom for the work you're actually meant to do.
