Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Free to Build collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legalese.

Free to Build is operated by Subunit Ecom Ltd, based in Nova Scotia, Canada. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

When you join the waitlist, we ask for your first name, email address, company name, approximate number of employees, and industry. We also give you an optional space to describe what in your business still depends on you. All of it is provided by you, voluntarily, and only the first five are required.

If you buy a place in a cohort, payment is processed by Stripe. We receive your name, email address, billing information and the fact of your purchase. We never receive or store your full card number — that goes directly to Stripe and never touches our servers.

When you simply visit the site, our web server records standard technical information: IP address, browser type, pages requested, and the time of the request. This is ordinary server logging, used to keep the site running and secure.

We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how many people visit the site and which pages they read. We record page views, the pages you came from and went to, your approximate location (country and region, never a precise address), and whether you clicked a call-to-action or joined the waitlist.

Analytics storage is switched off by default. Unless and until you agree to it, Google Analytics runs without storing cookies on your device or identifying you, and reports visits in aggregate. We do not run advertising pixels and we do not use analytics data to target advertising at you.

Why we collect it

• To contact you about the cohort — telling waitlist members when seats open, and answering questions.
• To understand whether the program is a fit for your business — the size, industry and open-question fields exist so we can have a useful conversation rather than sell to you blindly.
• To deliver and administer the program if you become a member.
• To send you occasional emails, but only if you specifically ticked the box asking for them. That consent is separate from joining the waitlist, and you can withdraw it at any time.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to build profiles for anyone else.

Who else processes your information

We use a small number of third-party services to run the site and the program. Each one only receives what it needs to do its job.

• MailerLite — email and subscriber management. Receives the information you submit through forms on this site. MailerLite stores data in the European Union and the United States.
• Stripe — payment processing. Receives your payment and billing details directly.
• Vimeo — video hosting for program material. Sets cookies and may collect viewing data when a video is played.
• Cloudflare — security and content delivery in front of this website. Processes request data to filter malicious traffic.
• Hostinger — web hosting. Stores the website and its database, including form submissions saved on the site.
• Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager — website analytics. Receives page-view and interaction data, and your IP address, which Google uses to derive an approximate location before discarding it. Data is processed in the United States.
• Google Fonts — typefaces used on this site are served by Google, which means your IP address is transmitted to Google when a page loads.

Because some of these providers are outside Canada, your information may be stored or processed in other countries — primarily the United States and the European Union — and may be accessible to authorities there under their local laws.

How long we keep it

Waitlist information is kept until you ask us to delete it, or until it is clear the information is no longer useful — for example, if you tell us you are not interested, or a cohort you were waiting for has long since run.

Records relating to purchases are kept for as long as required by Canadian tax and business record-keeping law.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising cookies.

Analytics cookies are off by default. Google Analytics is loaded with storage denied, so it sets no analytics cookies unless you consent to them.

Other cookies you may encounter come from Cloudflare (security), WordPress (only if you log in as an administrator), Vimeo (only if you play a video), and a short-lived cookie we set for a few minutes after you submit the waitlist form, purely so the same signup is not counted twice.

Your rights

You can, at any time:

• Ask what we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
• Ask us to correct it if it is wrong.
• Ask us to delete it. We will, unless we are legally required to keep it — for example, records of a completed sale.
• Unsubscribe from emails, using the link in any email we send, or by asking us.
• Withdraw your consent to marketing emails without affecting your place on the waitlist.

Email hello@befreetobuild.com and we will act on it. We aim to respond within 30 days.

If you believe we have mishandled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, sits behind Cloudflare, and access to the systems holding your information is restricted. Credentials for third-party services are stored outside the website’s code and database wherever possible.

No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise. If a breach ever affects your information in a way that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will tell you and report it as PIPEDA requires.

Children

This site and the program are intended for business owners and operators. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top and, where the change affects how we use information you have already given us, tell you directly.
